In an all English environment, children learn naturally at an astoundingly fast rate.
While it does take several months for a child to begin speaking on his or her own, the entire time, the subtle nuances and rhythm of the language is being absorbed by their minds. The constant absorbtion of English at an early age creates a foundation to truly master the language as the child grows. Most children become capable of speaking in simple sentences in approximately six months.
As the child grows up speaking two languages, learning a third or fourth language becomes much easier.
It is well known that after learning English, learning French becomes easier. At which point learning languages like Italian and Spanish becomes no sooner said than done.
